A New Year, A New Blog
Rebecca Blogs Again! The Backstory … From Broke to Bestseller
Welcome to my new blog.
I set up my first blog in 1999. Well, that’s a fib. A tech team set it up for me. Back then, there was no easy peasy WordPress or Blogger. It was coding from scratch or nothing. My blogging exploits (it wasn’t called that back then. It wasn’t really called anything. Nobody was doing it on the scale I was) brought me in contact with some major celebrities, and life was extravagant and bubbly.
After public success (I was mentioned in the international press, on online news sites, and on UK television) I went undercover and ran private forums and both online and offline niche networks while I worked on less shiny, and more industrial, business to business and public sector development. T’was dull, but I was a Director and it paid the bills, so I did it.
At nights, though, I let my creative self out. I sang. I danced. I wrote.
Long story short, I hit the public blogosphere again in 2008, inspired by the idea of leveraging it into a book deal and – if I was REALLY lucky – some kind of magazine gig. I’m now an author and a social media columnist (for Writing Magazine – the best selling magazine for writers in the UK).
What makes this remarkable is that, after a head injury in a car accident when I was 11, I was told I’d never have the same IQ as my peers, and would probably never write at the same level as them again. It was a fair comment. I could not speak, read, or write at the time. I never quit on my dream to be an author. My debut novel hit both the bestseller and best reviewed lists for its genre, on Amazon, and my IQ is in the top 2%. I’m a member of the International High IQ Society, and I advise both aspiring authors and entrepreneurs.
Dream big. You may just achieve your dreams.
